NEWS FLASH:    FLOODING in CAPRIVI
Breakthrough at Bukalo and Kalimbeza Turnoff to Lake Liambezi
Independence Day (21 March) provided a memorable event in the Caprivi:  the breakthrough of the water at Bukalo - meaning the water started flooding under the road from north to south as to poush up into Lake Liambezi.  Lake Liambezi was first recorded to fill with water from the Bukalo Mulapo in 1968, when the Zambezi was on a record high.    Even though the river level is now rising quite slowly (because water is pushing out into the mulapos) is is climbing steadfastly with centimeters daily.

On 23 March the water pushed through at the Kalimbeza  road turnoff as well - something that even elderly residents there has not seen.  This water will also push south to lake Liambezi.  Ground for Cattle is now getting extremely scarce and crops have been damaged extensively.    Temporary relocations flooded as well and people are strugling to get dry ground to sleep on.

Herewith a map to give you a better idea of what is happening where......
